Airway foreign Body

Airway foreign body - Chikoo seed 

(மூச்சுக்குழாயில் சப்போட்டா விதை)

An elderly gentleman came with cough and breathing difficulty after accidental aspiration of Chikoo seed while eating. CT chest showed the seed in right lower lobe bronchus. Bronchoscopy was done and the seed was removed successfully. Initial attempt with zero tip foreign body retrieval basket failed, which was then removed using roth-net basket.

Tips to prevent aspiration

- Eat or drink slowly

- Sit up straight while eating or drinking

- Stay upright for at least 1 hour after eating
